WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI has arrested an Afghan man who officials say was inspired by the Islamic State militant organization and was plotting an Election Day attack targeting large crowds in the U.S., the Justice Department said Tuesday.

The U.S. Department of Justice on Tuesday said the FBI arrested an Afghan man who was allegedly plotting an Election Day attack. Officials said the man—identified as 27-year-old Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma—was inspired by the Islamic State and intended to target large crowds in the attack.
