Flames consumed the Sutter Greek Restaurant on the city’s Main Street about 1 a.m. as fire crews from Sutter Creek, Ione and Amador County fire departments and Cal Fire worked to control the blaze. Crews were able to contain the fire and stop its spread. The building, like so many along the town’s historic Main Street, date back to 1800s.

A historic building in Amador County was destroyed early Friday morning by a fire, officials say. The property was home to the Sutter Greek Restaurant.

The owner of the building says a woman who was living on the second floor of the building was alerted by her dog and woke up just in time to escape.
